Do you Tip at a Hair Salon in Korea?
No, tipping is generally not customary at hair salons in Korea. The price you agree before the service is normally the full amount. This describes general custom, not a WENEED rule.

The short answer and the reason
In Korea, service is generally treated as part of the price. Hair salons list a price per service, and the designer’s work is expected to be covered by that price. A visitor who leaves extra money is not breaking a rule, but it is not what most local customers do, and some designers may politely refuse it.
Customs can differ between a neighbourhood salon, a hotel salon and a salon that often serves tourists. If you want to be sure, ask at the desk: “Is a tip okay?” A clear answer is more useful than a guess.
What you may pay beyond the base price
Tipping is not the usual way to pay more. The price changes in other, openly stated ways:
- Length and thickness add-ons. On WENEED’s menu, the women’s regular cut is ₩39,000 and length add-ons are charged separately.
- Designer price sheets. Each of our seven designers has their own price sheet, so the same service can cost different amounts. A women’s design cut, for example, is listed at ₩27,000 – ₩38,000.
- Extra services. A treatment or blow-dry added at the end is priced as its own item.
These figures are one salon’s menu, not a Korea-wide standard. They show how Korean pricing usually works: a stated price, with the changes written down before you start.
Better ways to say thank you
Because cash on top is unusual, Korean customers show appreciation in other ways. These are all common and welcome:
- Say thank you clearly at the end. In Korean it is gamsahamnida (감사합니다).
- Come back to the same designer for your next visit.
- Recommend the designer to a friend.
- Be on time, and tell the salon early if you must change your time.
- Give honest, kind feedback about what you liked.
A small gift is sometimes given on special occasions in some places, but it is not expected, and visitors never need it.
Why visitors feel unsure
Many visitors come from countries where a tip is part of a stylist’s income, so leaving nothing feels rude. In Korea the expectation is different. Salons set their prices so that the listed amount covers the work, and a customer who does not tip is generally not seen as cheap or impolite.
This also explains why you may see no tip line on a receipt or a card machine. The absence is the custom, not a gap in the system.
Situations where you may be unsure
- A long, multi-step service. A perm or color with a treatment can take most of an afternoon. The price is still the full price, and you can thank the designer in words.
- A designer who did extra work, such as a fix. Ask politely whether there is a charge. If not, simply thank them.
- A hotel or high-end setting. Practice may differ there. Ask at the desk if you are unsure.
- A friend’s recommendation. If someone told you to tip, ask them how the salon handled it. Individual salons may have their own habits.
If you think the service was unusually good
Say so to the designer in plain words and ask for the same designer next time. If you still wish to leave something, do it quietly and accept it if the designer declines. Do not leave money on a chair or table, because staff may not know whom it is for.

Questions guests ask
Do you tip at a hair salon in Korea?
Generally no. The price quoted for the service is normally the full amount.
Will a designer be offended if I leave a tip?
Usually not, but many will politely decline because it is not customary.
How do I thank a designer I liked?
Say thank you, return to the same designer, and recommend them to a friend.
Is the final price always the quoted one?
The final price can rise with length, condition and added services, so ask for the total before the work begins.
Should I leave cash on the table anyway?
It is better not to. Staff may not know who it is for, and a spoken thank you is the usual way.
Does WENEED have a tipping policy?
We state none here.
