How magic straight works
Magic straight is a straightening method used widely in Korea. A softening product is applied to the hair, the hair is rinsed and then pressed flat with a heated iron, and a second step helps lock the straight shape in. The result is smoother and straighter hair that often keeps its shape through washing. Salons differ in products and timing, and the designer explains theirs.
It is different from a curling perm. It aims at flat, smooth hair, and the “setting” version adds a shaped bend.
Root magic, sleek magic or magic + setting
- Root magic (뿌리매직): only the regrown section near the scalp is straightened. It suits hair that was straightened before and now has wavy or puffy roots.
- Sleek magic (슬릭매직): straightens the full length for a smooth, glossy finish. This is the choice for a first treatment or when the ends are also wavy.
- Magic + setting: straightening plus a setting perm. The roots and top are made smooth while the ends are given a bend or wave. It costs more because it is two services.

Magic straight or a sleek perm
Our sleek perm (from ₩120,000) also aims for a smooth flow, but it is a perm, not a heat-straight treatment. In practice, the sleek perm gives controlled movement with a clean line, and magic straight gives flatter, straighter hair. If you want volume with straightness, the volume magic perm is another option. The designer can say which fits your hair.

Straightening uses strong heat and chemicals. The designer will ask about your history and may advise against it, or choose a different method, in these cases:
- Recent bleach or very light hair.
- A perm or straightening treatment in the past few months.
- Severe dryness, breakage or burned ends.
Try to bring dates for every earlier color or treatment, and tell the designer if your scalp has felt irritated by past treatments. A hair clinic treatment may be suggested first for fragile hair.
Aftercare and maintenance
Ask your designer how long to wait before the first wash and whether to avoid tying the hair. Afterward, use a gentle shampoo, a conditioner for treated hair and a heat protectant if you use a dryer or iron. Straightened hair stays straight, and new growth comes in with its natural texture.
