Hair Color Trends in Korea This Season

Korean salon menus group color into a few families: soft browns, cool ash tones, tone-corrected shades and bright fashion colors. This page describes those families and what WENEED lists, not a ranking of what is popular right now.

What this page does and does not claim

Fashion changes quickly, and we have no sales data or survey to publish. So this guide does not say which shade is the most requested this season. Instead it explains the color families that appear again and again on Korean salon menus and how they differ in effort, upkeep and the base color they need.

Soft browns

Milk tea brown and similar shades are warm, light and low in contrast. They suit people who want a visible change without a strong lightening step. WENEED lists milk and ash brown at ₩74,000+. See milk tea brown for the full explanation.

Cool ash tones

Ash tones lean gray or blue-gray and cancel warmth. On dark hair they often need lightening first, because the tone is clearest on a lighter base. Read ash color. Ash tones also fade toward yellow with washing, so expect upkeep.

Corrective shades

Some color services fix a tone rather than add a new one. The red-tone removal color on WENEED’s menu is ₩90,000+ and is listed as tone correction. A related option is tone down color, which is useful when previous color looks too bright or too warm.

Fashion shades

Pastel and vivid colors need a light base and more care. See pastel pink and vivid fashion color. Bleach is not on WENEED’s printed menu, so ask the designer for a quote.

How to use color families when you choose

Think in three steps. First, pick the family: warm, cool or corrective. Second, decide how light you want it. Third, check whether your hair needs lightening to reach that shade, because that decides cost, time and upkeep.

  • If your hair is dark and you want a visible change with little effort, start with a soft brown.
  • If you want a cool shade, plan for lightening and for fading.
  • If a past color has gone brassy, ask about correction before adding a new color.

Soft browns tend to fade gently and need the least upkeep. Ash tones fade toward yellow and need regular care. Pastel and vivid colors fade fastest and may need a return visit within weeks. Ask the designer to tell you how often you should come back for the shade you choose, and use a gentle shampoo made for colored hair at home. Reapplying a toner or a gloss between full visits is something to ask about, since it can refresh a faded tone.

For the current menu prices, see the hair color price page.

On a Korean menu, color and lightening are often separate items. A full-head color price normally covers applying the color, and lightening or tone correction can be a different line. At WENEED, bleach is not printed on the menu at all, which means the designer quotes the total once the plan is clear. Ask for the total for the whole plan, not only the first step.

This is also why two people who want the same shade can pay different amounts. A person whose hair is already light needs less work than a person starting from black.

Matching color to you

Many Korean salons offer personal color, a method of choosing shades that suit your skin tone and overall coloring. WENEED lists personal color at ₩110,000, and men’s personal color at ₩105,000. See personal color hair color. For full-head color, the menu lists ₩110,000 – ₩117,000 (men from ₩80,000), and signature color is ₩75,000 – ₩99,000+.
