The styles and their Korean names

Trends change from season to season, and designers use some names loosely. Treat the table as a vocabulary list, then confirm the shape with a photo.

StyleWhat it usually meansWorks well when
Layered cut (레이어드 컷)Shorter pieces around the face and top, longer lengths at the back, for movementYou want your hair to look lighter and less flat
Hush cut (허쉬컷)Long, soft, face-framing layers with a slightly cut-through finishYou want to keep length and still change the outline
Bob (단발)One length at or near the jaw or chin, often bluntYour hair is straight and you want a clean line
See-through bangs (시스루뱅)Thin, light bangs that show some foreheadYou want a soft fringe that needs little styling
C-curl (C컬)Ends that bend inward in a C shape, set by perm or heatYou want a tidy, rounded end
S-curl (S컬)A gentle wave through the lengthsYou want movement on long layers

Choosing by length

Think first about where you want the hair to land, then ask for the shape.

  • Collarbone or longer: long layers, a hush cut, or an S-curl wave. Length add-ons are charged separately at our salon, so tell the designer you want to keep length.
  • Shoulder length: a layered cut with C-curl ends is a common Korean look. It can be set with a perm or styled with a dryer or iron.
  • Jaw or chin: a bob. It depends on a precise cut, and it grows out into a different shape within a few weeks.

Our pages on the layered cut and bob cut go deeper on each option.

How much styling does it need?

A cut that looks soft in a salon photo is often finished with a dryer, brush and sometimes a curling iron. Be honest with your designer about your routine. If you only air-dry, say so, and ask for a shape that holds without styling. If you dry your hair daily, a shorter layered cut will keep its bounce more easily.

Straight, thick, fine and wavy hair all behave differently in the same cut. A photo of a model with different hair from yours is a guide to the outline, not a promise of the result.

Cut, bangs, perm: what the menu shows

The prices below are from one salon’s menu (ours), for reference.

  • Women’s design cut: ₩27,000 – ₩38,000 by designer.
  • Women’s regular cut: ₩39,000.
  • Bangs cut: ₩10,000.
  • Layered perm: ₩115,000 – ₩150,000+, for movement on layered cuts.

Length add-ons are charged separately. A plus sign on a perm means the price rises with length and condition. Hair that is long, thick or previously treated can change both price and plan.

Face shape, hair type and what to ask

Korean salons often talk about face shape (얼굴형) when they suggest a cut. Layers that start near the cheekbones, for example, can soften a wide jaw, and a longer fringe can shorten a long forehead. These are common styling ideas, not rules, and a designer will adjust them to your hair. Our face-shape cut page explains the idea in more detail.

Hair type matters as much. Fine hair can lose volume with many layers, so ask for fewer and longer ones. Thick hair can feel heavy with blunt ends, so ask where the weight will be removed. Wavy hair shrinks when it dries, which is why short layers can end up higher than you expected.

Three questions help in any salon: how often will I need a trim to keep this shape, how will it look on a day I do not style it, and what will it look like in two months?

FAQ

Questions guests ask

What is a Korean layered cut?

It is a cut with shorter pieces around the face and top and longer pieces beneath, so hair moves and sits lighter. The exact depth of the layers varies, so show a photo.

What is a hush cut?

It usually means long, soft layers that frame the face with a natural, slightly airy outline. Designers use the name differently, so confirm the shape with a photo.

What is a C-curl?

It is a curl on the ends that bends inward in a C shape. It can be set with a perm or created with heat styling.

How much is a women’s haircut at WENEED Seomyeon Lotte?

A women’s design cut is ₩27,000 – ₩38,000 by designer and the regular cut is ₩39,000. Length add-ons are charged separately.

Can I get bangs only?

Yes. A bangs cut is ₩10,000 on the menu.
